The geographic scope of a trademark depends on where it is registered. At the German Patent and Trademark Office registered trademarks only apply to the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. One extends the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Brand (OHIM) registered Community trade mark in respect of all countries of the European Union. Enter other countries in the EU is a community brand there.

You can register a trademark as a national brand with protection in a country, a Community trade mark protection in the countries of the EU and as Internationl brand with worldwide protection. Think carefully about where your market is now and where it will be in the future! Where you market your products, you should also protect your brand.
